Privacy policy

1. In short

Us2 is an app for two. So that you can see each other's answers, we store them on our server in the EU. We show no ads, sell no data and don't train any AI on your answers. You can export everything and delete your data at any time.

3. What data Us2 processes

Your first names, your shared space (topics, rhythm, your situation, optionally how long you've been together, time zone and language), your answers and messages as text or voice messages including transcripts, your consents with their timestamps and, if you allow notifications, a push token for your device. There is no account with an email address or password: your device receives a random key, of which we only store a checksum.

If you state your situation (for example “queer”) or write in your answers about health, religious beliefs or similar matters, this may be special categories of personal data. We only process these with your explicit consent.

4. Purposes and legal bases

Providing the app and your shared space: contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and your consent to storage (Art. 6(1)(a), Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).

Personal questions by AI (optional, Premium only and only if you both agree): consent (Art. 6(1)(a), Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).

Protection against misuse (rate limiting based on IP address, held only in memory and only briefly): legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Record of your consents: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) in conjunction with Art. 7(1) GDPR).

5. Who else receives your data

Hosting: our server is located in a data centre in the EU. The provider processes the data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR).

AI questions (only with your consent): xAI LLC, USA. Questions and answers are transmitted without your names. The transfer is based on EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).

Purchases: Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) handle payments; RevenueCat, Inc., USA, checks for us whether your space has Premium. For this, RevenueCat receives only a random identifier for your space, no answers.

Notifications: push notifications are delivered via Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA) and Apple or Google. A notification may contain your partner's first name and the beginning of a message.

Transcripts of voice messages are created on your device if it supports this. In the browser, Us2 uses the browser's speech recognition; Chrome sends the recording to Google for this.

6. How long we store data

For as long as your space exists. When you use “Delete my data” in the settings, we delete your answers, messages and voice messages immediately; your partner's words stay with your partner. Once you have both deleted your data, we delete the whole space. We keep records of your consents for as long as we are required to prove them.

7. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21 GDPR). You can export all your data at any time in the settings.

You can withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future, and the AI consent directly in the settings.

You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one responsible for us: Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia), Kavalleriestr. 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf.

8. Age

Us2 is intended for people aged 16 and over.

9. Changes

If Us2 changes, we will update this policy. If anything about the consents changes, we will ask you again.
